Biography
Latinised as Ioan Antonius de Paulis. Printer and print publisher. Active in Rome. Shop at S. Maria della Pace. In the petition of 4 June 1599 for a papal privilege, De Paoli states his intention to publish religious, rare and exemplary images, including portraits; the privilege was granted 23 June 1599 for 10 years (Leuschner). He made other privilege applications in 1605 and 1624 (Leuschner).
c.1589 with Cesare Capranica, published a series of 18 plates with the life of St Francis (Prosperi Valenti Rodinò and Strinati). The inventory of Altiero Gatti's possessions, drawn up in 1596 after Gatti's death, reveals a considerable number of plates described as belonging to Gatti 'a compagnia di Giovanni Antonio Di Paulo' (Masetti Zannini). He published work by Luca Ciamberlano, Raffaello Guidi and Tempesta, among others.
